Secret Commission Unveiled!

Here’s “Frida Piglo”, the ‘secret commission’ which I can now reveal after the client’s wife received it as a gift. I have to say it’s one of my more quirky creations!

The brief was that Carole loves pigs and bright colours. I had originally intended to make a ‘wallpaper’ background (as in The Raj’s Emerald) using a kind of braid over gold paint. However, despite a search online and in the extensive collection in a local fabric shop, I couldn’t find anything that was just right. I tried dyeing some old lace in a bright lime green colour, but the tone was too similar to that of the pink face and I felt it needed a darker contrasting colour for the pink to stand out.

Right: gold background, changes to headdress

Below: gold background overpainted blue/green, no eyebrows, black flower (from old handbag) extends beyond picture frame

    Love Miss Piggy!

I’m giving a demonstration tomorrow as I work on a piece. It will be insanely difficult as I fell Tuesday and broke my left wrist. Surgery is next Wednesday to get things lined up. At least it wasn’t my right hand!

Thank you Jane. I’m so sorry to hear about your fall and fracture. Poor you. How on earth will you be able to demonstrate with one hand??? Hope it goes OK and that surgery goes smoothly next Wednesday x
